Berkeley Adult School

Vision: The Berkeley Adult School needed to relocate from a seismically unsafe facility to a former elementary school three blocks away.

Challenge: The neighbors surrounding the vacant school strongly opposed the move citing concerns about security, traffic and parking impacts among others.

Solution: CDA Strategies staffed a community advisory council, which met regularly to address neighborhood concerns.

Success: Over several months of heated meetings, CDA Strategies coordinated communication between the many players as the group worked to find win/win solutions to issues such as security and parking and to establish a pocket park with a community garden. Today, the Berkeley Adult School is opened in a renovated facility that enjoys widespread neighborhood support.
